Lyla
Lyla is a vibrant DJ who brings a unique energy to every performance. Growing up in various parts of the world, she developed a love for music that transcends borders and genres, influenced by the rich tapestry of cultures she encountered in her childhood. Her journey into electronic and dance music began in some of the most respected record shops, like Rubadub and Invisible City Records, where her diverse tastes blossomed into a signature style that resonates with audiences everywhere.
In her sets, Lyla weaves together an array of genres, including house (think acid, Chicago, funky, Italo, and jackin’), breakbeat, dub, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, drum & bass/jungle, electro, and UK garage. Her playful and dynamic approach allows her to connect deeply with the crowd, making sure everyone is having a great time and feeling the vibe.
Lyla made waves by becoming the first female DJ to perform at Pakistan’s Boiler Room event. Her passion for supporting the underground music community shines through her work with the Sunny Side Up! collective, a charity club night she founded. With a previous residency at Glasgow’s beloved La Cheetah Club, her night promotes local talent but also supports sustainable energy projects and vocational training in rural Pakistan, creating a real impact in both the music world and local communities.
For the past four years, Lyla has been hosting a monthly radio show on Clyde Built Radio, where she showcases her diverse musical influences and her knack for blending different genres seamlessly. Whether she’s playing a festival, spinning at cozy club nights, or curating soulful sets, her infectious energy and commitment to her craft truly stand out.
Lyla’s story is a beautiful mix of artistry and social work. Beyond music, she’s actively engaged in development work, advocating for refugees and undocumented communities, and tackling environmental issues. As a producer and DJ with a truly global outlook, Lyla is dedicated to creating spaces where music and social change can thrive together. Whether on the stage at Boiler Room or in grassroots initiatives, her impact on the global music scene is both profound and lasting.
