Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling AKA Session Victim have an unparalleled energy and passion that translates into their renowned live performances and vinyl-only DJ sets.

Their success is workable proof that if you’re making music from a foundation of true passion and friendship, you can go against the grain, stick to your principles and still win out. With several vinyl-only record labels like RETREAT, XK, Pen & Paper or Hauke’s latest playground SAVE THE BOOKS they release varied series of EPs – from the dancefloor focused to low slung dub.

Following three well-received albums released on Jimpster’s Delusions of Grandeur imprint, 2020 saw Session Victim release their fourth LP, Needledrop on Night Time Stories (sister label of seminal after hours imprint Late Night Tales).

Needledrop takes significant inspiration from the lavishly textured and subtly layered jazz and soul compositions that found their way into late 90’s trip hop and features a collaboration with USA singer- songwriter Beth Hirsch (who lent her talents Air’s Moon Safari album). The LP provides a suite of both uplifting and easy-listening moments, refined and understated individually, yet cohesively crafted with the organic groove and inarguable credentials we know of Session Victim.

Not showing any signs of slowing down but on the contrary putting even more time into writing songs, sharpening their production skills and rehearsing instruments. The boys made their very best out of 2020, releasing a limited live 7” with two recordings from their infamous trio shows with Keyboard wizard Erobique and finishing a new EP for Delusions Of Grandeur.

Entitled Two Crowns, the record contains three tracks drenched in that shimmering kind of dancefloor euphoria Session Victim (like so many of us) are eagerly yearning for.

Session Victim have had remixes out on Classic, Church, Greco Roman, Heist, Tartelet, Permanent Vacation and Razor N Tape and remixed bands including Khruangbin, Midnight Magic and L’Impératrice.
