Edward Estlin

Spain

Edward Estlin is a band from Barcelona, setting the beautiful poems of the famous writer E.E. Cummings to music. Vocals, guitars, a violin a double bass and percussion convey new layers of rhythm and meaning contained in the lyrics of his works. This union of poetry and music is ambitious, intense and emotional.

The project started on a normal Sunday evening when Philipp Schmidt and Ruben Campo met, completely by coincidence, across two balconies in Gracia. This meeting instantly inspired a little improvised concert for the passer-bys that were walking along the street. Later an old university mate of Ruben’s, Albert Genis joined with the violin. It was in December 2014 when they first played a concert as a trio. A few months later, Ferran Puertas and Oriol Pujolrás completed the band with the bass and the drums.

Edward Estlin is the combination of all its members and their different backgrounds, developing a fresh sound and a new concept of Folk. Transcending music itself. They recorded the first EP at the beginning of April 2015 including two songs: “Buy Me An Ounce” and “Hope”, both original texts written by E.E.Cummings from his poems “buy me an ounce and i’ll sell you a pound” and “!hope”. After which they performed at a few concerts around Barcelona, which were the perfect warm-up for their first European tour.
